Join our historian Stephen Nunn for a two hour cruise to find out more about the history of barges, Maldon as a port and the River Blackwater.
Leaving the Quay, the barge heads down river past the Victorian Promenade Park; past the statue of Brithnoth guarding Maldon against marauding Vikings; Northea Island which is a bird reserve owned by the National Trust; Heybridge Basin, the entrance to the Chelmer & Blackwater Canal; Mill Beach with it’s colourful beach huts on legs and finally towards the privately owned Osea Island, now a luxury weekend retreat and wedding venue.
Bring a picnic or add a lunch of sandwich with homemade coleslaw, crisps and salad garnish.
Boarding details are sent by e-mail 4 weeks before a trip or when booking (check your junk folder). Be ready to board the barge 1/2 hour before sailing. Search for car parks near Maldon CM9 5HN, Ipswich IP4 1FH, Brightlingsea CO7 ODY, Harwich CO12 3HH
