EXTENDED OUTSIDE SEATING
What better way to enjoy your visit to The Barge Tearooms than getting those lovely riverside views! So to make even more of our fantastic location we have extended our outside seating by over double.
S.B Resourcefuls' sister ship Reminder is sitting alongside us with deck cushioned seating and we have made some room on our working barge yard to get in some extra tables too.
Perfect spot to sit in the sunshine & watch our other historic Sailing Barges Hydrogen & Thistle sail down the river while enjoying all of our delicious locally sourced homemade food.
HOW YOUR VISIT HELPS OUR BARGES
Topsail Charters has 3 active sailing barges the Hydrogen, Thistle and Reminder. During the spring/summer months they work very hard to earn their keep, this allows annual maintenance over winter to keep them in working order. Each barge takes around £100,000 a year to keep licensed and sailing. As a private family business we are unable to tap into any Government or lottery funding so our barges have to work very hard each year during the sailing season to cover their maintenance costs.
With over 76,438 customers in the tearoom in our first 2 years, we have been able to contribute:
- £8,000 towards S.B Thistles new mainsail
- £6,000 towards a major refit to Hydrogens 113 year old hull.
Our visitors are helping Maldon’s famous historic vessels stay afloat and continue with their sailing life - hopefully for the next 30 years.
